Hi! I’m Jessica, and I wanted to share a quick note to tell you how excited I am that you are here. If you know me, thanks for stopping by! If you stumbled upon this blog, I appreciate you spending a few minutes with me. I’m a pretty simple girl (just as I typed that I thought, no one would describe me as simple! But that is how I think of myself!). I enjoy fashion and I like to dress up now and then, but most days you’ll find me wearing a pair of jeans, a grey t-shirt, flip flops and carrying an iced tea. I LOVE ICED TEA! I also love Neutrogena® and MoistureShine® lip gloss, like love love, and I never leave home without it!

About Me

I am a mom of four…my youngest is the cutest thing you have ever seen! I can say that because I didn’t birth her. She is adopted from China, and we are so fortunate to call her our own. My oldest is headed off to college in the fall, talk about completely unnerving! He is a boy genius but sometimes I question his common sense. It’s been good for my prayer life! I just keep praying, “Lord, please don’t let him get mugged and help him remember to do his laundry!” Seems like the two most important things, right? OK, before you turn me in to the elders at your church, of course I’ve prayed about many other things over him for years and years, but right now, I need him safe and clean! If you stay around, you’ll hear plenty more about all four of my kids. I don’t claim to be an expert, but I do get asked about parenting pretty regularly. I can definitely tell you some things not to do, and I will share what I think the key has been to raising kids that other people enjoy having around.

My favorite role is wife to Mike B! He is my favorite person on the planet, and I drive him absolutely insane! My love language is quality time and he would tell you that his is alone time! But seriously, we are a match made in heaven. We’ve been married for 25 years and it’s been nothing short of an adventure. I am a big dreamer, he’s a “let’s keep our feet on the ground” type of guy. I make quick decisions, he likes to do a LOT of research. When I think of something, I’m ready to do it. When he thinks of something, he’s just thinking. He is a numbers guy, I am not a numbers girl. He likes to have a budget, and my eyes gloss over whenever he mentions it! We love to travel and explore new places. We both enjoy a good meal and against his better judgement, I convince him to eat lunch with me almost every day…in the car! That’s a story for another day. I will admit it’s kinda weird but I love it.

Last but not least, I am an entrepreneur. I love business but I have no training in it. I’m self-taught and I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way. I have had thousands of great ideas over the years (Mike B would probably argue this point). Thankfully, two of them I was able to turn into multi-million dollar businesses. I often get asked, “How did you do it?” The answer is simple: I just never quit! I learned from my mistakes, I was willing to try something new and I believed I could figure it out. The pain points of being an entrepreneur were better than the thought of trading my time for money, clocking in and clocking out and having zero control over my job security and my income.

In fairness to you, here’s something I think you need to know if you are going to read this note from me week after week. I will encourage you to pursue your dreams! Why? Because I know how great it is to go after the things in life you really want to do. It breaks my heart to see women “just getting by,” and I’m not talking about finances (although we could!). Another warning, never trust my math. In all seriousness, I am not sure why we stop dreaming. Why do we think giving our time to corporate America is safer than starting something for ourselves? Why do we become moms (either working or stay at home) and all of a sudden, we are no longer ourselves? Don’t get me wrong, I love being a mom, but I am a better mom when I get to use my creative mind and dream about ways to build a better future, not a mundane schedule of running on a hamster wheel and getting nowhere. Why can’t we love being a mom and love being passionate about our own interests?

If you share a dream with me, I will encourage you to pursue it. I can’t wait to get to know you better. Drop a line in the comments below and let’s share some of those dreams. Don’t worry, I’m not going to show up on your doorstep, at least not anytime soon!

Alright y’all, this has been fun. We’ll chat real soon!
